Siberian Hamsters, also known as the Dwarf Winter White Russian Hamster, is a compact breed of hamsters with prominent eyes, expandable cheek pouches and a bullet shaped body, growing up to 8-10cm in length. Rarely seen in pet shops compared to their other Dwarf Russian Hamster cousins, Siberian hamsters are sociable creatures that make for good pets, being resilient and easy to care for as well as having a generally nice nature.
To care for your hamster, carry them with their legs supported so that they feel more secure in your hands. Avoid shouting or harming the hamster as they are very intelligent and receptive to your care. Wash and clean their cages every week to ensure that the hamsters don’t fall ill. Keep them away from detergents, deodorant sprays, cleaning fluids, hair sprays, and Teflon fumes. Do not feed your hamsters certain food items like avocados, coffee, salt and chocolate as these are also toxic for hamsters.
